Good informal spot for tasty (but not exceptional) mexican food. Home made tortillas and quick and friendly service. Very cost effective given the location and the higher prices of local competition. It's in a prime spot for a quick bite. Can't go wrong.

I absolutely love this place. Not pricy at all and the food is good. The ladies who work here are all kind. It's just the right amount of food. I've been coming to this place since I was a kid and it's still awesome.

We have been here several times over the year. Each of our visits have been separated several months but the food has always been consistently excellent. The tamales are especially good. We consider ourselves a bit of flan connoisseurs and La Luz Del Dia has the creamiest and most delicious flan ever. Sometimes flan just tastes like sweet eggs, this is a heavenly custard that needs to be tasted.

The Carnitas Plate is my favorite. I always get it. It comes with beans, rice, and Carnitas. I ask for no Salsa and no guacamole, because it is spicy. The line can be long and they close at a curtain time. I also get a Sweet Tamale, which has Pine Apple, and to drink I get Horchata. We also visit the shops on Olvera street. Parking is expensive so you should take the Metro To Union Station and walk over. Marina

Amazing tortillas made by hand. Tamales, carnitas tacos, beans and rice, are a humble must. Authentic Mexican comfort food.

Been coming here since my childhood and I must say they have the best carnitas tacos ever. With their home made tortillas, they've kept the same recipe for over many years. It's worth the trip to come check this out. I can't praise it enough!

Come here for the carnitas plate, it's delicious and has been for decades. Also, the handmade tortillas. This a a casual, order at the counter place. Mexican comfort food. You'll see mostly local Latino families here during the week, and a mixed crowd with tourists on weekends. The patio is covered with bougainvillea all year round. Better for lunch or early dinner since Olvera Street closes down fairly early.

I ordered taquitos with beans and rice. The taquitos are without question the worst I've ever had. They tasted either frozen or days old. But after a long day walking through LA, I was hungry and ate one of the taquitos. There were still 2 taquitos left and I hadn't touched the rice or beans when I requested a refund. They seriously deducted the price of 1 taquitos from the refund. How petty can you be? I appreciate the elder waitress for being kind and trying to properly compensate. Had it not been for her, I'd give a 1 star.

The tacos are as basic As It Gets. I ordered green chicken tacos and it was just chicken in green sauce with a tortilla. -.- it was home made style at least.

The chicharones Are the best anywhere! The Carnitas are excellent. They go beautifully with the homemade tortillas. . Today, they were a little bit on the hard side. But still very good

This is a historic site on Olvera Street in Las Angeles. Amazing mural on the building's exterior that has been saved by a local consortium. A great teaching point for art students.

This place has amazing authentic Mexican food. They are a family owned and run restaurant that has been open for over 50 years. (I don't remember the exact number) They were very friendly and it was a wonderful place.

This place brought me back to Sunday mornings in Houston when I was growing up. The chicharron taco is exactly what it should be. Texture probably not for everyone. Tamal was different than what I expected, but the sauce made it. Oh, and it was under $8 before tax.

Questions & Answers

@always faithful La Luz Del Dia is NOT expensive at all! The food is so DELICIOUS I travel 35 miles at least once a month to eat there! My mother used to take me there since she first immigrated to this country as it was one of the few places that made her feel as if she was in her old Mejico (misspelled on purpose, for proper pronunciation)! Love La Luz Del Dia, please never change!!

We are hoping to open in the next couple of weeks. Please check our Facebook page or Instagram for any updates. Thank you!
